Bill Noble trained and practised as a GP and hospice doctor for 16 years before taking up his post as Macmillan Senior Lecturer in Palliative Medicine at the University of Sheffield in 1996. His clinical work as a consultant physician in palliative medicine informs his research on palliative care in the community. Other interests include the Advanced Communication Skills Training Program and medical humanities. All projects are carried out with the involvement of service users. In October 2010, he was appointed Editor-in-Chief of a new Journal, BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care. He was appointed Executive Medical Director of Marie Curie Cancer Care in July 2013. He continues to practice palliative medicine in the community in Sheffield.
